Entering the hospital
St. Boniface Hospital is still fully open and accessible for all services. However, given the ongoing construction of our new Emergency Department, how you enter our facility is changing.
Here are some things to note for your next visit:
- Only emergency patients and their support people are permitted to enter via the Emergency Department entrance.
- To access the Emergency Room all pedestrians should be using the NEW emergency department sidewalk located beside the driveway. Our preference is that no one walk beyond the ED driveway to the west BUT please use caution if you’re accessing the West Block buildings as there is no sidewalk available immediately to the WEST of the emergency department doors (where the ambulances park).
- Our recommended route is to take the sidewalk along the ED driveway up to the ED entrance, then cross the driveway below the canopy and take the stairs or ramp down to the parking lot level, then proceed through the south parking lot to the West Block buildings.
- Only Emergency Department staff, patients and visitors should be using the the first-floor level Emergency Department entrance. Anyone else wanting to enter the hospital from the South Side entrance we ask that you walk up to the ED doors, cross the driveway below the canopy and use the stairs or ramp down to the parking lot level and then use the ground-level Forgan South Entrance tunnel.

Parking
- The size of the south parking lot outside the South Entrance has been reduced, but remains available to the public.
- In addition, there is public parking in the hospital parkade and its associated surface lots to the east of Taché Ave.
- Limited metered public parking is available outside the West Block buildings – the Asper Institute, McEwen Centre, Sakharov MRI Facility and Albrechtsen Research Centre.
- Patients and visitors may also find parking in the surrounding neighbourhood, either in private lots or on the street.
We thank all visitors to the hospital for their understanding and patience during construction of our new Emergency Department, which is expected to stretch into the fall of 2025.
