Emergency Department Redevelopment Project
Virtual Town Hall with the Community
At a virtual community town hall held Tuesday, September 21, at 6:00 p.m., President and CEO Martine Bouchard invited the public to learn about the proposed design of the new St. Boniface Hospital and share their feedback.
“The Hospital is undertaking a significant expansion of its Emergency Department, a project valued at over $94 million based on our preliminary planning, and a key component of emergency services transformation in the Winnipeg Health Region,” said Martine Bouchard.
These figures may change until the project design is finalized. While we expect this project to be completed by mid-2025, our current environment (Covid/changes in the health care environment) makes it difficult to confirm an “exact” date.
Existing space (18,600 feet) will be renovated, and more than 86,200 square feet of new construction will be added. Our Emergency Department has more than 48,000 visits a year right now, and we expect that number to increase to 55,000 on opening day in 2025; 60,000 in 2029; and 70,000 to 75,000 in 2039.
“These new spaces will allow us to better serve Manitobans now and for decades to come,” said Bouchard.
