Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Parents are the most important people in a baby’s life. In NICU, we take care of your whole family, not just your baby. We will help you find support to meet your needs. Talk to your baby’s nurse about things that you are finding hard to deal with.

As a parent or guardian, we encourage you to be with your baby as often as you are able to. You may phone at any time and as often as you would like to (phone number 204-237-2775). We will only give information to parents or guardians, unless you give permission for others to have information.

The St. Boniface Hospital NICU cares for over 750 sick or premature babies each year. A helpful guide to use as a marker for going home is your baby’s due date. Most babies go home close to their due date; some will be ready sooner, and some will need to stay longer.

It will take time for you to get used to the equipment and strange sounds in NICU. We will tell you about your baby and their progress each time you phone or come in.
